“Tell my wife I am trolling Atlantis…

…and I still have my hands at the wheel.”

My mind seems to be drawn to the sea just now, hence the posting of this video. But what a line this is – “Tell my wife I am trolling Atlantis…” As a writer and teller of tales, I have a huge admiration for the storytelling talents of songwriter, Billy Joel. He is a troubadour of our times (well of mine anyway); a poet, musician and social commentator. So I hope you enjoy this multi-stranded creation, musical flash-fiction if you like, and so well constructed. Please do look at the full lyrics too, at the link below.

  1. I only own one Joel album, Glass Houses, but I do enjoy listening to him.
I must be honest, ever since watching Perfect Storm, I get the heebie jeebies watching anything to do with the sea.

      1. That movie actually left an indelible mark on me – not a nice one either.I watched it once – never again.
I wouldn’t say I have a fear of the water – my father and grandfather were from Newquay and grew up by the sea, and we spent plenty of time by the beach at Rhyl and other places when dad was stationed in South Wales

Odd I guess, that it was just that film.

      2. Hm. Perhaps the film locked on to some other, perhaps tangential experience that is hiding in your subconscious. Not that a single viewing of a film cannot be deeply shocking. I’ve never really got over the Devils of Loudun – so many expressions of vile human behaviour.
