Lens-Artists: What’s Bugging You?

I don’t need to be asked twice to reprise photos from my bugs and butterflies archive. And this week at Lens-Artists, Donna is doing the asking.

Lens-Artists: What’s bugging you? That’s this week’s question from Donna at Wind Kisses. Go see her fine gallery of close-up bugs, bees and butterflies.

        1. It’s looking that way, isn’t it. But then I don’t remember doing much casting last year either, though it was nowhere near as chilly as this, and we did have those few days of hot weather in late July. But that brief interlude aside, I definitely recall hanging on to my winter vests when I went up to the allotment.

    1. Cheers, Brian. It’s been flipping miserable here today, after fooling us with a bit of summeriness on Saturday. Is it the same with you? Heating back on!

    1. Thanks, Jo. That’s my one and only sighting of a hawkmoth. It was a good couple of inches across. Yonks ago in primary school we found a caterpillar in the rosebay willow herb next to the playground. It was huge, but a very dull brown and also with an eerie big eye pattern on its nether regions. Needless to say, it was consigned to a jar with a bit of vegetation. I don’t think it made it to the next wonderful stage.

  1. Wow. All beautiful captures, Tish. The whimsical bee at the beginning is fun. The caterpillar… beautiful detail. The ladybug sure seems to have modeled for you. And I admit I am a little envious of the hawkmoth. I even plant flowers specifically to attract them and just can’t seem to get one. A beautiful gallery! Happy spring.

    1. That’s the first hawkmoth I’d ever seen, Donna. And there was always plenty of its favourite forage about the place, so one would expect to see some sign of them. They must be very secretive.

  2. Wow, you have some great shots here! I love the opening one with the hovering bee, the beautifully captured caterpillar and the ‘bee line’ with the oriental poppy 😮

  3. Amazing images Tish – and a great variety. Like everyone else I agree that hawkmoth is truly impressive! Love the detail in all of your images – terrific set.

  4. Fantastic collection, well seen and well caught. The bee line made me smile. Hopefully your “summer” weather improves. It is summer over there now isn’t it? 🤔

    1. That’s a very good question, Pauline – is it summer over here? It’s certainly not feeling like it with the seemingly endless easterly winds. But we’re being promised some warmth at the weekend. We’ll see.
