I don’t need to be asked twice to reprise photos from my bugs and butterflies archive. And this week at Lens-Artists, Donna is doing the asking.
Comma butterfly on Doronicum ‘Little Leo’ aka Leopard’s Bane.

Peacock and the bee.

Marmalade hoverfly visiting the crocosmia, a variety which I’m pretty sure also had marmalade in its name.

And another kind of hoverfly on a lace flower.

Elephant hawk-moth found one day on the garden wall.

This ladybird has found the perfect ‘platform’ on a Dyer’s chamomile daisy.

White-tailed bumble bee ‘bathing’ in Hollyhock pollen.

We could call this a bee line: oriental poppy here we come. BZzzzzz!

Lens-Artists: What’s bugging you? That’s this week’s question from Donna at Wind Kisses. Go see her fine gallery of close-up bugs, bees and butterflies.
Fantastic post Tish! I especially like the Bee Line. What a catch. Loved your caterpillar too.
Many thanks, Anne. I had great fun stalking the bugs in my garden.
I have this image in my brain of you in camouflage clothes, camera in hand, stalking those tiny bugs!
Lovely portraits! Summer at its best. You haven’t just taken them, have you? Brrrr.
Nope. All golden oldies. It’s truly bleak today here in Broseley. And the same with you, it seems. That flipping wind. Heating back on again!
Quite. Ne’er cast a clout till July be out, apparently.
It’s looking that way, isn’t it. But then I don’t remember doing much casting last year either, though it was nowhere near as chilly as this, and we did have those few days of hot weather in late July. But that brief interlude aside, I definitely recall hanging on to my winter vests when I went up to the allotment.
Beautiful photos Tish! The elephant hawk – moth is so unique.
I was so astonished to receive such colourful visitor, Aletta.
Excellent! Sort of reminds us what spring should have been like!
Cheers, Brian. It’s been flipping miserable here today, after fooling us with a bit of summeriness on Saturday. Is it the same with you? Heating back on!
It’s not been great here for sometime. Go inland a bit and it was sunnier and warmer, not today though.
Yep heating on in the evening.
That’s an impressive hawkmoth, Tish. Don’t recollect seeing one of those but your flowers and beasties are wonderful.
Thanks, Jo. That’s my one and only sighting of a hawkmoth. It was a good couple of inches across. Yonks ago in primary school we found a caterpillar in the rosebay willow herb next to the playground. It was huge, but a very dull brown and also with an eerie big eye pattern on its nether regions. Needless to say, it was consigned to a jar with a bit of vegetation. I don’t think it made it to the next wonderful stage.
😳💗
Wow. All beautiful captures, Tish. The whimsical bee at the beginning is fun. The caterpillar… beautiful detail. The ladybug sure seems to have modeled for you. And I admit I am a little envious of the hawkmoth. I even plant flowers specifically to attract them and just can’t seem to get one. A beautiful gallery! Happy spring.
That’s the first hawkmoth I’d ever seen, Donna. And there was always plenty of its favourite forage about the place, so one would expect to see some sign of them. They must be very secretive.
Yes. And nocturnal. It is a bit rare in the day, so treasure the photo. lol
Great selection, Tish, but I have to say that bee in the first image is brilliant!
Many thanks, Sue. Was rather pleased when my camera showed me what it had done 🙂
Fab!
I really love your selections, Tish!! Hoverfly and the lace flower, fabulous. So are the rest!
Thank you, Amy.
Beautiful, Tish! Thanks for reprising.
Thanks, Janet.
GREAT banner shot. I like ’em all.
Thanks, John.
Those of some of the best bee photos I’ve seen anywhere!
Thank you. I’m taking a bow 🙂
Reblogged this on Hutts Ultra Blogging World.
Cheers, Pete.
Oh wow, I was particularly taken with the elephant hawk-moth, Tish.
It’s quite a stunner, isn’t it.
Absolutely.
Wow, you have some great shots here! I love the opening one with the hovering bee, the beautifully captured caterpillar and the ‘bee line’ with the oriental poppy 😮
Thanks, Sarah.
Amazing images Tish – and a great variety. Like everyone else I agree that hawkmoth is truly impressive! Love the detail in all of your images – terrific set.
Many thanks, Tina.
Fantastic collection, well seen and well caught. The bee line made me smile. Hopefully your “summer” weather improves. It is summer over there now isn’t it? 🤔
That’s a very good question, Pauline – is it summer over here? It’s certainly not feeling like it with the seemingly endless easterly winds. But we’re being promised some warmth at the weekend. We’ll see.
Your usual summer has maybe migrated over here. 25deg today, clear blue skies 🌞🌻
Today we have sun but lots of wind. 17 C mid morning. But supposedly 27 and thunder tomorrow. All very erratic.
We get some hawkmoths here, and they are always beautifully patterned. But pink! Never seen a moth in such a cheerful get up.
I was pretty astonished when I saw it. The larval stage comes in rather dull shades. No signs at all of that extraordinary pink.
Coming in for that landing? Phenomenal shot!
Many thanks, Ruth. It was a lucky moment 🙂
So wonderful 🙂
Thank you, Sofia.
