In Kenya, as in much of Africa, signwriting on shop fronts, in markets and on matatu mini-buses is something of an art form. I only wish I had collected more examples.

Yes, the signs really say a lot about the place. I love those elephants on the bar sign.
They’re great, aren’t they. Tusker beer is pretty darn good too. Mm. Miss that, now I think of it.
Another excellent post…love the signs.:)
Nice selection for the challenge …
Unique!!! 😀
Thank you, Isadora.
I should get you more. This remind me of the old days 😀
Yes, I was thinking that you’d have some better examples. And old days indeed, Noel 🙂
The paintings on buses have become drab.
We will see what we can get though
These are terrific photos. I love the sun bleached colours and the rich, warm light.
Thanks, Suzanne. Some of them were not in very good shape age-wise, but the light always wins out, doesn’t it.
I like the aged quality in some of your photos – it suits the ‘age gone by’ content. They would make great wall images if blown up – the first three or so in this series particularly
Love it. There’s a real retro look to them.
Well, yes, the photos are a bit old, but the interesting thing I noticed was that all the 1950s and 60s formerly mainstream products in UK had somehow washed up in East Africa along with a reprise of artwork of the period. Fascinating the ways of marketing.
I remember some of these signs…Tusker of course was good 🙂
yes, I rather miss the Tusker beer 🙂
